Yuno Gasai (Mirai Nikki • Asgard Eventide)

OOC Information;
Name; Kyuu
Personal Journal; [livejournal.com profile] euphoriant
Contact; plurk, i see phailure
Other Characters; n/a

IC Information;
Character Name; Yuno Gasai
Canon; Mirai Nikki (wikipedia; tvtropes)
Canon Point; Chapter 59, after killing herself in order to allow Yukiteru to become the god of the new world.
Age; Yuno was stated to be 14-years-old around the start of the series. However, because of time and space traveling shenanigans and the lapse of time between the chapter where that was stated and the chapter where I'm taking her from, I believe she may be bordering around 15-years-old to 16.

House; I believe Yuno would best fit in Hel. As a yandere, Yuno has been shown to resort to extreme and morbid methods to protect herself and Yukki from any harm (and even for mundane things, such as as backup plan for gaining the approval of Yukki's mother), frequently murdering anyone who dares stand in her path and forcing others to make sadistic choices. Perhaps, because she has been shown to be very intelligent and loyal, she could fit into Odin or Heimdall very nicely, but these aspects of herself aren't as apparent as her psychosis most of the time.
Power; Body Control. Being who she is, Yuno would find this ability much more useful than being able to manipulate shadows, as she prefers to do her own fighting and would be more interested in experimenting with the limits of her new abilities.

Personality;
NOTE! because there is a...small debate on the correct spelling of yuno's nickname for yukiteru (aka: yukki/yukkii/yuki), i will make a note that i will be using "yukki" as that and "yukkii" are both accepted spellings, according to the katakana.
Beautiful, smart and athletic. There are many reasons why Yuno Gasai is her school’s very own resident idol. She is a model student and a model person, someone who other girls look up to and boys frequently give love letters to--ones she naturally refuses, stating that she has no intentions of committing herself to a relationship at the time. She maintains a polite and refined attitude towards others, that combined with her excellent grades (that she achieves without the help of her Future Diary, unlike Yukiteru) and athletic skills, make her very popular amongst her peers. As far as outward appearances go, she is the picture of perfection. Graceful and charming, popular between boys and girls at her school and diligent to her teachers and other adults. Yuno is feminine to a point, showing great prowess in every day house chores and a meticulous eye for detail; a skill she throughly makes use of when trying to gain the approval of Yukki’s mother as a suitable future bride for him.

But, in the end, those are all superficial details.

Truth to be told, underneath that facade of perfection and respectfully poised grace lies a deep psychosis. As a result of her mother’s abuse and her father’s negligence, Yuno’s mind was throughly twisted from the beginning. Once upon a time, she used to be an optimist who had hope that if she became the model person her mom was trying to mold her into, then she could have the happy family she yearned for. She understood that her mother wasn’t quite alright in the head and that her dad was just busy, and so she kept telling herself things would be alright. Even when her mom was feeding her tatami straws so she would choke as punishment and kept locking her up in a cage for staying out too late, she still loved them. She thought that one day her parents would realize what they were doing was wrong, and the ultimate proof of this is that she locked them up in her cage instead of running away and getting help. All they had to do was promise her they would change, and she'd let them out, but they didn't and died from starvation instead. After they died, Yuno kept talking to their bodies like they were still alive. She told them about her day at school and ranted about the nice boy she would marry when she grew up, just because she loved her parents so much. This is even more apparent when in the middle of the series, Akise Aru digs up her mom and dad's headless corpses (the heads were currently in her possession, since she was on the run) for an autopsy, and Yuno becomes alarmed and screams at Akise for digging up her "mommy and daddy".

Her parents death only helped crack what was already a fragile mind, and because of this, Yuno found herself unable to think of any dreams and hopes for her future. Without her parents who she had loved so much, she had nothing to live for--until she found Yukiteru. Yukki, who had also lost his dream for the future because of his parents getting divorced, couldn't think of anything to write either. He had wanted to go see the stars with his family, but that was impossible now and he thought it was a stupid dream, so Yuno related to him and assured him it wasn't stupid at all. Since he wanted to go with his family, Yuno made a promise with him. She would marry him when they grow up, and they could go see the stars together as a new family. Yukki thought she was joking at the time, but to Yuno, this promise meant the world to her. It was her future now, and she would dedicate her life to Yukki.

In fact, she dedicated her life to Yukki so much, that her her Future Diary only talks about Yukki. There's nothing in it about her or anybody else, save for the —DEAD END— notice that would tell her if she was going to be killed by another diary user. Her diary is officially called the "Yukiteru Diary" (or "Stalker Diary", according to Yukki himself), but Yuno calls it her "Diary of Love". It updates every ten minutes with whatever Yukki is doing at the moment, giving Yuno complete hold over his future. It goes so far as to tell her if he's asleep or just ignoring all of her late night text messages. It's the perfect diary for a stalker.

There are various very good reasons for why Yuno is called the "goddess of all yanderes" by fandom, of course. Yukki is all that matters to Yuno. She would kill, murder and torture for him. She breathes for Yukki, talks for Yukki, moves for Yukki. There is absolutely nothing Yuno would not do for Yukiteru, he is her reason to live. Without Yukki, there would be nothing stopping Yuno from losing her sanity entirely and destroying herself and everything around her. In her own mind, her life is worthless if she cannot be around Yukki anymore. She would rather die if it was impossible to be by Yukki's side, and she actually does kill herself in more than one way.

At the end of her first timeline, because she wasn't aware it was impossible to bring back the soul of people who die, she faked her love's suicide with Yukiteru to become a goddess and bring him back. However, because she found herself with Yukki's mindless corpse instead of the boy she had come to depend on so much, she fell into despair of desperately tried to think of a way to live by his side again. It was here that she had the most terrible idea. She would travel back in time to a point where the Survival Game hadn't started, inadvertently creating a new world and leaving her old one to self destruct, and kill her double so she could take her place. She would become that new world's Yuno and play the Survival Game again, and protect Yukki from any harm. Yuno planned to do this time and time again for as long as possible, but things didn't go quite as planned. Because Yukki stumbled upon her double's corpse, the future changed too drastically. There was no way for things to repeat themselves as they did last time, and that just served to heighten her mental instability.

You could say Yukki is the reason why Yuno is so screwed up in the head, and you wouldn't be entirely incorrect. As Yuno admits herself, she wasn't always this obsessed and in love with Yukki. In fact, she really wasn't in love in the first time at all. Both Yuno and Yukki were only using one another. Yuno only wanted someone who could serve as her emotional crutch, and Yukki just wanted someone who could protect him. They were living in a pure symbiotic relationship, and as they went through the Survival Game the first time, they both fell for each other sincerely. This would repeat itself in the second game, and Yuno would just snap further because as much as she wished she could hate the current Yukiteru and Yukiteru could come to hate her, they couldn't. She loved him far too much, and so did he.

Before the events of the survival game, however, Yuno was just a 14-year-old girl who had been abused by the people she loved. Back then, she wasn't the psychotic paranoid wreck we all know. When she was faced with a very real rival for Yukki's love and not just a product of her paranoia, she didn't resort to murder. That Yuno was just a lonely girl who talked to corpses to mitigate the loneliness, and resorted to silly antics to keep other people from taking away the only good thing in her life. She called Yukki "Amano-kun", and didn't go to extremes to keep him safe. There were instances where Yukki was protecting her, in fact, and not the other way around. You could say, then, that the Survival Game was the final tap in the head Yuno needed to sink into insanity. After being forced to willingly murder so many people just to survive and mucking up so horribly at the end, Yuno finally snapped and became the yandere we all know.

While it may seem so, Yuno's violence isn't mindless and she doesn't see it as an easy fix to every problem in life--just the ones related to Yukiteru, mostly. Her grades in school are most certainly not for show and she has been shown to be cunning time and time again, with analytic skills that would put many to shame and a great ability to improvise. When faced with the situation of Yukki's father lying to him and wanting to break his cellphone (which would kill him, since his Future Diary is stored there and destroying a diary is the same as erasing the owner from existence), Yuno used his greediness to her advantage and made a plan to show Yukki what he was really after. She immediately is on the defensive around everyone who comes near Yukki, assuming they are planning to take advantage of him and take him away from her by making him fall in love with them. Her mistrust of everyone in Yukki's life is such that she even doubts his own parents. Granted, she didn't know Yukki's dad was who he was (and in the end she was correct to mistrust him), but this most certainly stems from her own parental trauma. When meeting Yukki's mom, she started fondly thinking about how nice she was and how lucky Yukki was to have such a great mother, before she remembered her own mother and stopped, caught in a moment of anxiety.

Beneath this mess of insanity and constant paranoia that makes up Yuno Gasai, it's important to remember that she is still a girl. Beneath all that is still a living, breathing child who wants nothing more than to spend a good time with the boy she loves the most. She smacks him when he does something stupid that hurts her feelings, plays practical jokes to fluster him, deadpans at him when he refuses to go into a pool and cries when they go to a haunted house in an amusement park together. The thought of having intimate relationships with him flusters her, and so does looking at her Future Diary and seeing that they're going on a date soon. When she does something wrong that upsets Yukki, she cries and cries and says sorry to him in a nonstop stream of apologies Yukki can barely make out, and clings to him completely lovestruck when he forgives her and squeals in joy when he praises her. Yuno loves Yukki, really, and when there isn't danger she acts like any other 14-year-old girl who's become the girlfriend of her first love.

As Yukki puts it, Yuno is actually a very adorable girl when she's behaving normally and her psychosis isn't being triggered by the events that surround them. She's capable of being friendly and keeping friends when there aren't any triggers to set her off, and did manage to have a handful of female friends she hung out with in school before the Survival Game started, first and second time around. Yuno Gasai may be the most lethal player in the Survival Game, but in the end, she's still a 14-year-old girl who's gone through too much.

--nm thing working?

[The video feed began with a bit of confusion, Yuno's slightly perplexed face peering down at the camera for a couple of seconds until she realizes it is, indeed, working. She immediately shifts to a more cheerful tone before continuing to speak, although it sounds like she's anxious for some reason or another.]

I was sure there was going to be nothing after I died, but...maybe this is the afterlife? [A small giggle, but it sound rather empty.] If that's the case, it seems the afterlife is a pretty bleak place!

Ah...I should start by introducing myself. I'm Gasai Yuno. I hope to get along with the other honorable guests in this city.

[She pauses for a moment, looking down at something to her side and fiddling with it, before looking back up to the camera and smiling. Her anxiety is more clear this time, but not so much as to be overwhelming.]

That woman that greeted me was pretty strange, wasn't she? Useless, too. She wouldn't answer any of my important questions, only things I don't care about. Maybe someone listening to this has better answers than her? It's a small question, and...I'd prefer not to wait too long to know the answer.

Log Sample;
Yuno Gasai was alive.

Even though she had killed herself before arriving at this place, she was still alive. She still had a pulse and a need for oxygen to fill her lungs. Even though she knows she had killed herself for Yukki's survival on 07/28, she was still alive. There was no knife wound to prove her sacrifice. No ugly scar on her chest to prove that she had given up her right to repeat the Survival Game over and over and over just for his sake, and somehow, Yuno found that she didn't mind at all.

It was only to be expected, however. If she was alive, then it was certainly better than being dead. If she was alive, then it meant she could have another opportunity to be by Yukki's side for all eternity once again. As long as she was alive, then there was no possibility of this place being the afterlife. Yukki could arrive here at any minute, and Yuno would be right there waiting to be by his side again. If he didn't show up, well, she would just have to find a way to leave this place in order to be by his side. It would be easy for her, of course. As long as it is for Yukki's sake, nothing is impossible for her. She would make sure of that, and anyone who disagrees can just die for her cause.

Clutching the knife she had found lying on her chest when she first woke up, Yuno scans her surroundings. The city was bleak and colorless, not very interesting at all regardless or whether or not she was actually capable of caring for a place that did not have Yukki in it. Everyone she had seen in this place so far was just like their surroundings: bleak, colorless and uninteresting. The maid that had explained her situation earlier to her was useless, and she couldn't even extract the information out of her using her tools. She was a completely useless person who served no purpose to her--but that was alright. She would just have to find someone who would be of use to her inside this city. Someone who she can actually see the face of and someone who wouldn't ignore when she politely inquired about certain details of her current situation, that would be the kind of person she would use as her temporary pawn.

Yuno smiles to herself, quickly concealing the knife under her clothes and putting up her usual front of polite kindness. Perhaps, if she was lucky, she wouldn't have to use her tools to retrieve the information she needed. If she wasn't very lucky at all, however, she would just have to be a little forceful with them in order to convince others to cooperate. No big deal, really. Only standard business for Yukki's sake.

"It's okay, Yukki," she chirps to herself, a small bounce in her steps as she rounded a corner. "Yuno's going to make sure we're together again, soon."
