[Character name] Saya
[Age] Unknown, but she has existed for at least a few years. To those who see her as a human, she appears as a 13/14-ish year old girl.
[Canon] Saya no Uta
[Point in time taken from canon] From the "Mental Ward" ending, where she and Fuminori don't frolic over the Moral Event Horizon hand in hand. Taken from after she's exchanged texts with Fuminori and goes on to search for her father again.
[Background]
Saya's backstory is sketchy, to say the least. When she first arrived on our planet, she was alone--she had no memories, no identity, but had an infinite amount of curiosity about her surroundings. Somewhere along the way she meets an eccentric medical scientist named Masahiko Ougai, who not disturbed or shocked by her grotesque appearance at all, was much too eager to discover a new species completely different from humans. He took her in, and then began to educate and raise her much like one would do with a child. For a while, Ougai educated her only in conventional subjects, such as math. However, Saya soon began to express an interest in biology and human reproduction, soon declaring herself as a "she", completely against Ougai's assumptions that she had been male, and created her own human identity. To further her investigation about human reproduction, she immersed herself in books such as romance novels, deciding that "love" was the objective of all human reproduction. Ougai, impressed by Saya's progress, decided to give her a present on her birthday--her name, which had once to belonged to his mother's cat that he had considered a dear friend.
Although the details of what exactly happened are not quite clear, Saya suddenly finds herself alone again after she and Ougai became separated. Confused and lonely due to the fact that her father had suddenly stopped coming home, Saya set out to find him. She took residence in the hospital where he worked at, and remained there for a while, eating strays that were wondering around the area and making use of the nurse's night shifts to sneak around the hospital without being noticed. Soon enough, she became weary of not being able to find her father, and decided to entertain herself in her spare time. Using a list of mental patients she had found, she would sneak into their rooms during the middle of the night in order to stare down at them until they started screaming.
One night, however, during her little routine of scaring mental patients for her own amusement, she suddenly finds one patient who doesn't seem to be afraid of her presence at all--in fact, he almost welcomed it. His name was Sakisaka Fuminori, a college student who had suffered a terrible accident that nearly killed him, and the operation to fix the trauma and lesions he had taken to his brain had left him with a condition that caused him to see the world around him differently. Because Saya was already different from everybody else, however, Fuminori sees her as a cute, petite girl instead of the abomination she truly is. Some time after this meeting, Saya becomes Fuminori's reason for living and, after he offers to help her look for her father, they move in together into his house.
Eventually, the two develop an intimate relationship and become lovers. However, their relationship caused Fuminori to become colder and more apathetic towards the people he had once considered friends, becoming a completely different person from the Fuminori they had befriended. Because of this, one of Fuminori's former friends, Oumi, comes to confront him in his own house, angered by how coldly he had treated another one of their friends. Unfortunately for her, Fuminori was not in the house at that moment, and instead she ended up becoming Saya's meal for the day upon entering the living room. Fuminori, upon arriving at their home, decides to sneak up on Saya while she ate (as he was curious about both the "wonderful" fragrance coming from the living room and how he had never seen Saya eat before), and this is where they both discover that human meat was one of the few things Fuminori could stand to eat in his current state--although he wasn't aware of the fact that he was eating a human at the moment.
A week or so later after Oumi goes "missing", Saya decides to try a little experiment for Fuminori's sake. She sneaks into the hospital once again, steals all of Fuminori's chart from their archives, and brings them all back to their home. Although this had Fuminori highly confused at first (thinking that she was merely playing around with his charts), it becomes clear that Saya is in fact reading all of his charts and understanding them far better than any human doctor would. After discovering the source of the problem that causes Fuminori to see the world as he does, she decides to try out what she had learned.
Picking their next door neighboor, Yousuke, as her test subject, Saya sneaks into his house and waits until he comes down to the first floor, having made a small hole in the window that allowed a draft to seep in. Once he is inside the living room, Saya assaults him and alters his brain into the same state as Fuminori's, allowing him to see the world just as he did. Unfortunately for Saya, she might have altered his mind a bit too much, which combined with the shock from having the world around him so drastically changed, makes him highly aggressive and full of blood-lust. Secretly hoping that having him see the world the same way Fuminori did meant that he would be kind to her, Saya is shocked when she is suddenly assaulted, chased around in her own home and subsequently raped.
After being rescued by Fuminori (who had pretty much carved up Yousuke until he wasn't even recognizable as a human being anymore) and having him realize that Saya is not quite human, Saya begins to explain her true nature to Fuminori as a being specifically designed to manipulate the anatomy of others. Before Fuminori can admit something important to her (such as how he loved her), Saya stops him, knowing that the moment he said that, it would be too late. She asks if he would like to return to the world he once knew, knowing that this meant they would never be together again, or if he would prefer to stay the way he is. Her fears are confirmed as soon as Fuminori mindlessly says that, yes, it would be nice for everything to go back to normal, and even though it pains her, she simply keeps on smiling and kisses him on the lips. In a few seconds, Fuminori passes out and Saya "fixes" him.
As Fuminori confesses for all the murders upon waking up (including the ones he hadn't committed, like Yousuke's wife and daughter), the next time they're able to "see" each other is in a psychiatric hospital, which is implied to be various weeks from the incident. Saya, not wanting Fuminori to hate her or for the memories he has of her to be ruined, refuses to let him see her, only exchanging text messages with him throughout a cellphone they passed back and forth underneath the door. Fuminori finally confesses his love for her, promising to comfort her at any time, and with that Saya continues to search for her missing father.
[Personality]
Saya is, essentially, a child. Despite being smarter than most humans by far, and her ability to memorize and understand new things being off the charts, she is still rather naive and learning new things every day. Interacting with the humans around her is a rather fascinating experience, as she spent many of her years living in secluded rooms of houses that belonged to her "father" with little contact with the outside world, which causes her to be a little bit too trusting of her environments (assuming that humans that see her true form would be too scared to hurt her, and that humans who see her as a young girl would be automatically kind to her). To her, human morals are completely foreign and unnecessary. Because of this, many of her actions, no matter how well intentioned they were, come off as rather morally gray or just downright wrong in the eyes of many humans.
Because of her childish nature, of course, Saya also tends to be a bit of a troll. While searching for her father in the hospital he worked in, she spent most of her nights looking up the list of patients. When she got bored, she would sneak into the rooms of the ones with mental problems and stand over them, staring down at them until they started screaming. In fact, she was rather disappointed when Fuminori didn't react with fear upon seeing her, and almost left in frustration because he had spoiled her fun.
As most humans, like mentioned above, tend to react with fear upon seeing her (and most of them even go insane), Saya is rather confused by those who aren't scared by her at all. She tends to become attached to those who aren't afraid of her, holding her "father", Ougai, and her lover, Fuminori, in very special places--she would do anything to keep the people she loves happy, even if it meant giving up her chance to be with them forever. Of course, even though her favorite kind of meat is human meat, Saya would give up on eating that for the rest of her life if it meant that she, alongside with Fuminori, could live in a world where everyone would accept her as she is and not run away in fear.
Although she did not possess a personality and identity at first, with her intellect and understanding of her surroundings, Saya was able to create her own human identity and personality. Even if her morals are decidedly not human for the most part, the emotions she feels are. She tends to be over-protective of the ones she loves, more often than not offering to put herself in danger for their sake, and even sacrifices a little bit of her commodity in order to make sure they're comfortable with their surroundings. In order to make her lover comfortable, in fact, she attempted to ease his loneliness a little by taking on duties that a normal housewife would (cooking, getting food, etc.) and, after he expresses his desire for more friends and a family, she gets him a "pet"--picking his former friend Yoh (who had a blatant crush on Fuminori) and transforming her into whatever Saya is, effectively making her appear human to Fuminori and in turn breaking her to the point where she was simply mindless. Much like a human, Saya also feels jealousy when people get too close to her lover and picked Yoh as a "pet" because of this--Fuminori even remarks that Saya's emotions were so human at this point, that is was nearly frightening.
[Abilities]
Being made of some sort of strange, super expandable substance, Saya is able to heal from any wound immediately, making her incredibly difficult to harm and kill. In fact, in order to kill her in the game, two characters had to take her on at once, first freezing half of her body with liquid nitrogen and then shooting that frozen part of her body off with a shotgun. Also because of the strange substance her body is built of, Saya can "shrink", making it easier for her to fit under small spaces like underneath a couch or a small hole in a glass pane.
Saya's body is specifically designed for altering the mind and body of any living organism. As long as she has a proper understanding of how to alter the mind of that organism, and the "blueprint" for their body (in other words, the sperm of the male from that species), Saya can alter it in any way she sees fit. While the process of altering their mind isn't painful at all and apparently causes the person to be drowzy and pass out, it is quite horrifying and capable of driving anybody insane if they aren't ready for it. In the game, she only uses this ability of hers to return Fuminor's perception of the world back to normal and to make Yousuke see the world in the same way Fuminori did--both as a test of her abilities and in hopes that more people would be nice to her.
The process of altering the body, however, is extremely painful, horrifying, and slow. It takes a minimum of 20 hours, and the person in question will not pass out, allowing them to witness as their body slowly rots and falls apart, driving them insane. There are two ways for Saya to do this: one is for her to directly manipulate the person's body, having to enter their body in order to change it, and the other is for her to release a series of "spores" from her body that are capable of spreading all over the world, changing the entire human race to whatever she is in a matter of weeks. The last option, however, also entails her death and is only possible when she has collected a sufficient amount of human DNA.
Aside from all of that, Saya can also secrate some sort of liquid capable of melting anything it touches. She usually uses this to soften her food a little, as it would be too difficult to chew otherwise, and also for less conventional uses--like making a small hole in a glass pane to break into a house.
[Other important stuff] Despite what Ougai might lead you to believe, Saya isn't invulnerable; a grown human male would easily be able to chase her down and incapacitate her, which makes it very easy to literally punch her out. Even if most types of wounds would heal instantly, if one somehow manages to find a way to blow a big chunk of her body off (like with a grenade, or burning it off, etc.), it is possible to kill her or simply incapacitate her for a while. While we never see her true form completely (and even then, it's not her, but Yoh), it is mentioned that she is slimy, smells like "piles of fish guts left to rot", and has tentacles all over her body. To the normal human ear, her voice usually sounds high pitched and gurgled, with strange inflections.
[Sample post]
She had expected it, Fuminori answering yes to her little question, but that didn't make it any less painful. She had made the offer, after all--it was probably what he had always wanted since the accident, and she shouldn't have any problem with that. Even if he was stuck in that place (a psychiatric asylum, if she remembered correctly), he would be far much more happier (and safer) than if he continued being with her, the world around him twisted into images of blood and entrails instead of what any other human would normally see. It was for this reason that she had stopped him before he had gone too far, she should be happy for him.
She was, but it felt far much more forced than an actual genuine feeling.
Perhaps this was why she had decided to suddenly visit him in his cell one day, even though she had hid behind the door the whole time, only sliding a cellphone underneath it in order to speak to him, far too scared of what his reaction to her appearance would be. Perhaps, she had just wanted to hear what he had to say that night before she interrupted him, to hear his voice for one last time before she had to go look for her father once again.
Perhaps.
But it wasn't like it mattered too much now. She had more pressing issues at hand right now--like why she had suddenly woken up in a place she had never seen before, feeling dizzy and disoriented and not like she should usually feel upon waking up.
She blinks, confused at the sudden change of surroundings. This wasn't where she had gone to sleep last night at all, not really. Glancing around at her surroundings, it didn't seem to be a place she had seen before, not even in a photograph. And looking down at herself, this... It wasn't how she was meant to look like at all.
Saya holds her hand in front of her face (her slim, pale human hand), and cocks her head to the right. She then lifts what appears to be her now equally as human arm to eye level, and proceeds examine the rest of her body. This was a human body alright, nothing like what she usually looked like. It wasn't nearly as appealing as other female human bodies she had seen before, but it was certainly more appealing to the human eye than her true form.
Was she dreaming? Maybe, it was the only reasonable explanation she could find for all of this. Perhaps she was experiencing one of those "lucid dreams" she had read about when she was still with her father.
"Mmm..." She hums, rising from her spot on the ground to stand on her own two, human legs. "I guess I'll just have to find out for myself, then." Not surprisingly, her legs wobble slightly as she stands up, causing her to nearly fall over, but she manages to keep herself steady.
If this was truly a lucid dream, then she would simply have to test it out. If not, well...
She would just have to investigate it.
[What do you hope to do with this character in Somarium?] Gather CR and to try my hand at another type of character. Even though Saya is still technically a "yandere", it's been a while since I've played a character who was genuinely sweet and childish, so I want to try it once more.
[Which rule was your favorite and why?] Just like last time, the no selfcest rule. It's amusing when done in a private RP, or inside a musebox, but not so much when in a public game.
[Where did you hear about Somarium?] I don't remember what I said before, but I think it was on my f-list?
[Any questions?] Sorry if this isn't alright, but since having other characters see Saya as she truly is would make it difficult for her to get any kind of CR, would it be possible for others to see her as Fuminori does? She could feel and appear human to everyone else while retaining her true form, or she could actually become human and have some sort of access to her true form. She could also just become human, with no way to access her abilities whatsoever. Whatever is more convenient for you guys, really.
