Hazama Rei (AU) -- Permanent Way
OOC info:
Name: Kyuu
Method of contact:
euphoriant, kyuusexual
IC info:
Character name: Hazama Rei
Age: Around 15-16 in canon, but for the sake of her AU history, 17
Gender: Female
Original canon: Doubt (note: Tonogai Yoshiki version, not the shoujo manga by Kaneyoshi Izumi.)
Target canon: Death Note
Canon background: Once upon a time, Rei was a normal little girl living a happy, normal life with her parents.
Or, at least, as normal as life for a child star could get.
Rei was a celebrity, the star of a hypnotism show called Saimin Shouji. No matter where Rei went, she was praised and looked up to, everyone in Japan knew her name, and her parents couldn't be more proud of her. Life was like a dream to Rei, and, honestly, it couldn't get any better.
So, instead, it got worse.
Like all hypes do, the Saimin Shoujo hype died eventually, and everyone around Rei did a complete turnaround. She was called a liar, and those that had previously looked up to her began harassing her, going as far as to vandalize the school she went to with graffiti that displayed messages such as "go home, you disgusting liar".
No matter what she said to the media, they wouldn't believe her; they would just twist her words around and keep asking questions. This continued until Rei had to practically seclude herself, as she couldn't even go outside without somebody calling her out.
Her parents never said anything about it, however, and continued to protect her. One day, they told her to get dressed, get on the car, and once that was done, they proceeded to drive the car off the nearest bridge.
Her parents were declared dead on impact.
A few weeks later, she films the last episode of Saimin Shoujo. She smiles for the camera, says her catchphrase, and then proceeds to take revenge against all of those who mocked her, using the same hypnotism everyone called fake. She would use that very same hypnotism to call out those who have felt the pain of losing a loved one, and they, under her control, would aid her in her revenge against all of the liars in this world.
Now, flash-forward to three years later, when a game called Rabbit Doubt has become popular in Japan.
A group of friends has agreed to meet up in person to play said game, between them Aikawa Yuu, Hoshi Eiji, Akechi Haruka, Komaba Hajime (who would show up late to the meeting), and, of course, Hazama Rei. Under the guise of a cripple, Rei met up with the group in the streets, before leaving for a karaoke bar, also accompanied by Houyama Mitsuki, who was Yuu's best friend.
While in the karaoke bar, after Yuu saves her from being harassed by one of the players, Eiji, she reveals to him that she was Saimin Shoujo, and asks him to keep it a secret. Yuu, although initially surprised, agrees to keep it a secret from everyone else, unaware of the fact that they are both being overheard by Eiji.
This all works to Rei's advantage, of course.
Once Eiji proceeds to open his mouth and spill everything to the rest of the group, Rei comes up with a story. She says she attempted suicide, but instead ended up paralyzed. She says that she was lonely, that she just wanted everyone else to be happy, but the media just kept on lying and lying, so she secluded herself from the rest of the world.
The group, believing her story, accept her. Haruka bashes a microphone against Eiji's head, Mitsuki comforts her, and everyone proceeds to enjoy themselves once again.
Or, at least, until the game begins, and everyone is kidnapped and taken to an abandoned hospital to play a real life game of Rabbit Doubt.
The first victim is Rei, of course. She's pinned against a wall with a stake through her chest, her wheelchair has been completely and utterly destroyed, there's blood all over the place and there's a bar code on her right leg. The first ones to find her corpse are Yuu and Mitsuki, who panic and close the door behind them as the run out of the room, inadvertently locking the door behind them.
Once Yuu, Mitsuki, Eiji, Haruka and Hajime (who had been ambushed and kidnapped at a different location) are reunited, they come to realize that they are playing a real life version of Rabbit Doubt, and that in order to survive, they needed to find the lying Wolf. They needed to find Rei's killer.
...But, oh, wait.
That can't be right, can it? Rei can't really be dead, right?
Of course not.
Rei's a Wolf too, and Wolves can never die; the game just doesn't work that way. That corpse everyone saw? It was a fake. All of it had been fake, and Rei had just been hiding while everyone else was killed off by the other Wolf.
While everyone else was killed off by Mitsuki, who had come to her after the loss of her dear father.
However, not everything went as planned, and Rei had to reveal herself before Yuu and Hajime had been killed. Apparently, there had been somebody else who Mitsuki loved, and when she was near that person, Rei's hypnotism wavered.
Yuu had ruined her plans.
However, with a smile on her face, Rei revealed everything to Yuu, from how she was taking revenge in her parents name, to how she had used the cellphone's ring-tone to control Mitsuki. After this had been done, she opened the final door, called the police, and fled the scene.
Still, witnesses were very detrimental to Rei's plans, and she couldn't afford to have somebody like Yuu and Hajime around. Making sure that one of her Wolves was in the forensics team sent to investigate the scene, Rei covered up all of her tracks and got rid of Hajime without lifting a finger. She called Yuu, who had been stupid enough to answer a cellphone instead of throwing it out the nearest window while visiting Mitsuki in the hospital, and provoked him to say the second trigger: "for the one I love".
Yuu hadn't even fully comprehended that said phrase, in conjunction to a ring-tone, would cause anyone under Rei's influence to go slip into their Wolf persona before being stabbed to death by his best friend.
Smirking, Rei hung up.
Houyama Mitsuki would be prosecuted for murder, and Hazama Rei would continue with her revenge.
AU background: Year? 2003.
Location? Japan.
Meet Hazama Rei, your average 17 year old teenage girl, living in a small town in Japan. She lives with her aunt, uncle and cousin, attends a normal school, has normal friends, and lives a normal life.
She also has a supernatural notebook which allows her to kill anyone she wants by simply writing their name down, as long as she has a face and a name to go by.
Maybe it started when she stumbled upon the notebook one day during lunch break, and, amused by the "fake" rules presented in it, decided to test it out. Maybe, it started all the way back in 2000, when her father was assaulted and murdered by a burglar on the streets (all for ¥1973.0000), or when her mother was killed in a traffic accident caused by a drunk driver who was never even prosecuted.
Whatever the cause may be, that marked the beginning of what all of the world would later come to know as Kira.
But we seem to be getting ahead of ourselves.
Upon finding the notebook, as any other human being would be, Rei was initially skeptical of the so-called "rules" found behind the cover of the note book. Amused by what she believed to be a rather elaborate practical joke, she takes the notebook (or rather, the "Death Note") home, and writes the name of the first person she sees on T.V.
Surprise, surprise when said person literally drops dead 40 seconds later.
Whoops.
Of course, as any other normal person would be, Rei was initially scared. However, unlike any other normal person, Rei quickly realized that this discovery was nothing to be afraid of. It was rather amazing actually.
If the law itself was unable to protect innocent people such as her dear mother and father, then she would take the law into her own hands. She would utilize the Death Note to rid the world of all those filthy criminals, all for her mother and father who could not survive in such a world.
At first, she just turned on the news and picked criminals at random, not really caring if the police found it strange that people were dying from unexplained heart attacks randomly. It was not until she meets the Death Note's original owner, a Shinigami, that she truly begins to think in the grand scale of things, planning to create a New World by using her Death Note to purge the world of all evil.
Along the way, she attracts the attention of a detective known only as H, and that is where everything starts to get seriously fucked up. Throughout a long series of events, Rei and H, who introduces himself as Komaba Hajime (obviously using the name of the famous artist as an alias), encounter each other during the entrance exam to the university Rei had chosen, and, later on, a second Kira named Houyama Mitsuki appeared.
...Also known as the best friend of Rei's cousin, Aikawa Yuu.
Her reason for becoming the second Kira? She wanted to find a way to thank "Kira-sama" for killing the man who had driven her father to suicide. The fact that she was "Yuu-kun's" cousin just made it even better.
And, of course, despite the constant questions concerning Yuu-kun and the equally constant gushing about the aforementioned, Rei was never one to refuse any help she got.
After all, if things ever got out of hand, Mitsuki would gladly take the fall for her precious "Kira-sama".
Unfortunately, this little story will have to end here, when Rei, who found herself in a hurry to get back home as to avoid looking suspicious to the police, was forced to board the train, and finds herself stuck.
Powers: None. Rei is just your average teenage girl, with a plan and the means to achieve it.
Personality: Shy, timid, kind, and polite; these are all words that could be used to sum up Hazama Rei perfectly.
Despite the fact that Rei has been spoiled through and through, she is, surprisingly enough, a kind, timid girl who would rather help others out than herself. She feels uncomfortable whenever she is in large crowds (and avoids them whenever it is possible), never raises her voice, and speaks far too politely for what one would expect from a sixteen year old girl.
All in all, Rei is a perfect, polite, quivering pile of nerves.
Not exactly the kind of person you'd expect to be a sociopath who only uses people for her own means, right?
Rei, in all honesty, sees most people in this world as filth. She doesn't care about you, really. If you're useful to her, then, lovely, get in line. If you're not? Then, oh well, time to own up to your mistakes and suffer just like her dear mother and father. She only cares about a select few, and even then, the probabilities of her throwing one of those people away for the sake of her plan are ridiculously high. Of course, it doesn't matter to her if you are family or a close friend of her, as soon as you do something that she considers to be unfitted for her vision of a new world, she will get rid of you with no hesitation.
Rei is also very intelligent, capable of coming up with plans to ease off suspicion from herself, as well as quickly improvising when something does not go according to her plans.
Possessions: Her cellphone, a stuffed rabbit, and a few pages of her Death Note stashed inside said rabbit.
Sample post: [ Oh, look! There's a new passenger on board, and she seems to be rather confused as she walks around, occasionally glancing outside. ]
A-Ah... T-This is bad...
[ She glances at her cellphone's screen, before biting her lower lip. ]
I-I took the wrong train, d-didn't I...?
